On Friday, April 15, 2005 the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care announced that Peterborough would be one of three designated Community Health Networks wherein five (5) Family Health Teams would be implemented. This special designation acknowledges the fact that a model presented to the Ministry two years prior by the Peterborough medical community was to be the model adopted by the province for all Family Health Teams. As a result, the family health team model is now fully implemented.. Physicians wishing to be part of this new era of primary care reform will find opportunities in Peterborough, as a result, very favourable. And, since we have five Family Health Teams any family physicians moving to this area will have an opportunity to become a member of one of these Teams.
