In
Peterborough the most frequent opportunities for locum
work is found within the roles available at the
Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Most often these
opportunities are in the "hospitalists" role or
working in the Emergency Department. Family Medicine
locums are somewhat problematic in the Peterborough area
as it relates to family practices as a result of the
Family Health Team implementation. Because the family
physicians, for the most part, participate within one or
the other of the five Family Health Team groups their
absences are covered by their "team/colleague"
members. So, the need for locum coverage has become less
of a need than in previous times.
